Hiding Behind The Bible
I heard a quote that really hit home for me from Pastor Ramsey Hart, he stated “the church teaches you to be a hypocrite”. We are taught to smile and say “we are blessed and highly favored”; yet inside we are slowly breaking down. We use religious language to cover up lifestyles, pain, depression, guilt, hate and a vast of insecurities. So instead of properly healing, we put bandages on situations that need surgery.
I see far too many believers proclaim freedom; yet, still keep the address of bondage. Each Sunday can be a moment of liberation or a moment to place on a mask. The word of God was never intended to hide our problems in it. It is the inspiration and the tool be set free. It is the catalyst to remove any burden, pain, hurt, and depression that find residence inside of you. Our big brother Jesus states this, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew NIV 11:28 – 30
Rest in Greek means this, to give intermission from labor. Intermission is a break, a halt, a stoppage from what you were doing. If you are weary or burdened from pain, guilt, depression, hurt, rejection… Jesus is here to bring it to a halt. We done have to wear a mask with him. We don’t have to smile if it hurts. We don’t have to smile for 2 hours on Sunday, and soon as we get in our cars break down into tears from the pain… We can stop hiding and give our broken lifestyle to him to receive rest.
