The Enemy Is After Your Relationship

Frustrated and perplexed I began walking to my father’s house one afternoon trying to relieve some stress due to some tough battles going on in my life at the time. Out of curiosity I asked God, why didn’t you save my marriage? Of course I was looking for a direct answer, I was extremely emotional and felt like it was just unfair. I’ve watched God turn people’s marriage completely around after clearly heading for destruction. So I was perplexed at why was my situation so much different. Not immediately hearing from God, I figured this had to be the enemy attacking us as a whole. The enemy wanted my marriage to fail because of how great we would be together, I concluded. As I started to cut the corner of an abandoned lot on my dads street I remember hearing God speak!

“The Enemy Doesn’t Want Your Stuff”

What does he need your stuff for?

“He’s after your relationship”

I’m sure we all know how this began right. Of course believers and non believers alike know the story of Adam and Eve. Giant snake(with legs) tricks Eve into disobeying God. Adam follows suit, sin entered the world and bam!! Kicked out of the Garden! Adam and Eve are now naked and afraid in this vast open space outside of their original resting place given to them by God. Now they’re alone and in fear of tearing up one of the most important relationships ever given to them. Of course we know that sin was the plight of the enemy.

“Hey I’ll just get man to do to you what I did to you; surely you will disown them like you disowned me”, was most likely his thought process.

This was the first time you see Satan begin to sow discord between man and God. Job was one who was unknowingly attacked by the enemy through earthly avenues only to sow discord between between him and God.

In essence the enemy will attack what you have naturally. Relationships, finances, and health. Only to begin to twist your view, perspective and what you know to be true about the father. To create distance and contempt between man and God. Age old trick. When calamity comes we normally run towards the nearest exit, as so what we were trained to do. If you’ve ever been on a plane the flight attendant briefly yet thoroughly explains the safety instructions and exit plans in case of loss of control and a potential crash.

We as humans take the precautionary measures but find ourselves playing God and or trying to fix something, yet putting ourself in more danger. “Maybe I should fix this or that then surely God will heal and restore.” Sometimes that’s the case, God does require us to be good stewards but in some cases it’s not! The enemy does not want your stuff he wants to take away your intimacy, you’re thirst, hunger and passion. Your Relationship!!

In Job chapters 1 & 2 you see Satan go and ask God for permission to attack Job. Reminding me of something my pastor always says.

“Satan doesn’t have power over you he only has the power of suggestion.”

Meaning Satan only ucerpts authority through implanting things in your mind, giving authority to negative thoughts by acting on them is what gives Satan his power.

It’s so hard to trust God and be obedient in seasons of trial and great distress; but if we understand the plight of the enemy using whatever tactics, we realize he’s after our abiding and loving relationship with God. A relationship that is sustained and maintained through Christ working in our spirit man, giving us strength to endure and seek God's love and truth above all else. God’s love and view of us has not changed. Let us remember that as we journey throughout life.

Ephesians 3:16-19 NIV

“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”
