The Adulterous Generation
There’s this underlying pressure given from members/congregation for leaders to keep revealing power, signs and prophesy. The demand from the church for the five fold ministry at times has become idolatry. Here’s what I mean: we (the church) have fallen in love with the knowledge, signs, and prophesy more than the provider of the knowledge, signs and prophesy. The adoration for natural manifestation has surpassed the reality that the intimacy in spirituality is needed to produce the natural manifestation.
You’re probably wondering about the title. Here’s who gave me that title:
Matthew 12:38 -39, “Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Him, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.” 39 Jesus replied, “A wicked and adulterous generation demands a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.”
I read this verse and wondered , “why did Jesus call them adulterous… Who were they cheating on?” It wasn’t until week later God revealed to me why, they were cheating on him. The same Jesus that called them adulterous said this in Mark. Mark 16:16- 18 NLT, “Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. 17 These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages.18 They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”
The flesh in the form of senses needs to see something to believe it, it doesn’t take faith to believe what you just saw. It only takes sight. Jesus was telling the Pharisees in Matthew 12:38, you’re cheating on me with your sight. You’re being led by your senses; you don’t believe me, you don’t believe my word, because if you did the signs will follow you.
The signs were never meant to be worshipped or confirm God is real. His word has already confirmed his authenticity! You have to take his word by itself and believe and once that is done, the signs will follow you. The fruit will follow you…
